Last summer I had great time while taking part in the MIID summer school. I felt that my work improved extremely by working on its briefs (1, 2).Therefore when I read this excellent global design event was coming back I signed in again. I challenged myself to do all three tracks simultaneously, as I did last year.

Our first project for the beginners track was designing a bright retro pattern. I hand drew simplified shapes and added some hints for retro florals. Those motifs were scanned and manipulated in Ilustrator and then arranged in a simple pattern of a technical repeat. I made sure to vary the scale of the motifs and create a feeling of a playful mood. I used bright popping colors I took from soft pop palette inspiration that was provided in the brilliant brief by WGSN as a trend forecast for S/S16. And finally, I usually do, I added textures to enrich the depth and enhance interest.

I will love to hear what you think of this piece and which product applications you find suitable for it.
